BACKGROUND
PROBLEM
The bottle unscrambler at the bottling plant experienced frequent bearing failures due to rushed and inadequate manual lubrication, a consequence of the equipment operating 24/7 with no scheduled downtime. Proper lubrication required a full shutdown, lockout/tagout, and removal of several panels to access five bearings, making it a time-consuming task that was often hurried or skipped altogether. These conditions made it nearly impossible to follow the manufacturer’s recommended service intervals, resulting in under-lubricated or missed bearings.

To address the lubrication challenges, they installed a MEMOLUB® 5-point Multi-Point System to provide continuous lubrication to the bearings while the bottle unscrambler remained in operation. Mounted externally, the system allows lubricant refills without shutting down the equipment or removing panels, improving reliability and maintenance efficiency.
Results
This provided a major advantage by eliminating time-consuming lockout/tagout procedures, while still maintaining full compliance with the facility’s safety protocols.
